How do I research what a healthcare job actually requires?
Direct Answer
Read several real job postings for the same role and look for what appears consistently, then verify any licensing requirement with the relevant authority.
The Full Answer
One posting reflects one employer’s preferences. Five or ten reveal the pattern — the requirements that are genuinely standard versus the ones that are optional.
Separate what you read into two groups: requirements you must formally hold, such as a degree, licence or certification; and skills or knowledge you can develop, such as leadership, communication, operations or quality improvement. Only the second group is something education can address directly.
For any licensed occupation, treat the state regulatory authority as the source of truth. Job postings sometimes describe requirements imprecisely.
Your Next Step
Compare several real job descriptions, then verify licensing requirements with the appropriate authority.
